Ms. Fisher ~ The LAB
Servicing all grades at Island City Academy through push-in special education services
I have previously taught at both charter schools and public schools. This is my fifth year here at ICA and I am proud to work with such wonderful families and staff. I will continue looking forward to working with students and making a difference in the lives I touch. The biggest news I have to share is that I recently married the love of my life in July of 2013. Together we have 3 dogs and 2 horses. Many of you know me as Ms. Sexton previously.
I provide special education and intervention services to grades K-8, via push-in and pull-out services. This ensures students are not missing core academic instruction and are able to keep up with the demands of classroom work. With the help of the special education para-professional, Intervention teacher and Reading Interventionist, we are able to service students both within and outside the classroom. This enables students to feel comfortable and confident within the classroom. There is also time allotted at the end of the day for one-on-one if needed.
My education background began years ago when I began as a volunteer with the handicap riding program in Jackson. Through this I found my love of teaching others with special needs. I started at Jackson Community College obtaining an Associates Degree, transferred to Eastern Michigan University where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. Most recently I graduated from Concordia University of Ann Arbor with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership focused in Curriculum and Instruction(December 2010). I am looking forward to perusing additional degrees in the areas of Reading and/or Autism in the future.
